Everyday, thousands of Canadian citizens are victims of Homicide, Attempted Murder, Rape, Sexual Assault,
Domestic Violence, Robbery, Aggravated Assault, Assault With A Weapon, Forcible Confinement, Abduction, Stalking, and Threats.
Canadian Police Services handle over 2 million Criminal Code violations annually.
Of those 2 million, 13% are violent crimes!
That means that violent crimes are as frequent as almost 1 out of every 8 crimes.
And those are just the incidences that the police have been involved in.
2.4% of those violent crimes involved firearms.
Knives accounted for 6.2% of violent incidences.
Against 3.0% of the victims of violent crime, bats, clubs, or other blunt instruments were used.
Many of these crimes could have been prevented if the victims had taken steps to protect themselves. Often it is just a matter of knowing how to avoid risky situations, and being prepared for emergencies.
